MAYOR'S BLUE RIBBON SEARCH COMMITTEE
July 17, 2013
Dear Prichard Citizen:
Whether you are a homeowner or a renter; whether you are a senior citizen or a school age young person; whether you are a small business owner or if you are one of Prichard's largest employee you are entitled to being safe in your homes, on our streets and while you are going to school, going to work or going shopping the Mayor has made it clear to the Panel that he wants a Chief/Leader who will make these things happen. The Mayor's instruction to this Panel was for us to consult broadly with as many "stakeholders" as possible and to take their views into consideration as we evaluated candidates.
We will first meet with the members of the City Council. Then we have approximately fifteen meetings with community groups, ministerial groups, educators, the elderly, students, the rank and file police officers as well as the Senior Officers of the Police Department. We will seek to speak with judges, governmental, county, and state law enforcement officials, among other groups. Importantly, we also have to interview the finalists. Of course, most of these meetings will be combined.
We regret, given the Panel's commitment to report to the Mayor by Labor Day, we will not be able to meet with individuals or individual organizations. The meetings we have with groups will last long enough so everyone can have their say. We will be happy to receive, and carefully consider any written comments you may have regarding the selection of a new Chief of Police for the City we love. You may send your comments to ajc@prichardpolicechief.com or to the MAYOR'S BLUE RIBBON SEARCH COMMITTEE, c/o The Office of the Mayor, 216 Eest Prichard Avenue, Prichard, Alabama 36610
Yours Truly,
A. J. Cooper, Chair
